Steel Reaction

STEEL REACTION PLATES

The purpose of steel plates is to transfer driving engagement. Reaction plates normally have teeth or lugs on either the internal or external diameter. There are several critical factors that must be considered when selecting reaction discs:

  • MATERIAL - High Carbon Steel or Tool Steel, based on application.
  • HEAT TREATMENT - Correct plate hardness is directly related to the mating spline.
  • SURFACE TREATMENT - The correct surface finish and grinding pattern of reaction plates must conform to the specific fibre material used on a clutch or brake disc. Incorrect surfaces can result in rapid wear and premature failure.

PRODUCTION PROCESSES

High-grade carbon steel from rolls or sheets is:

  • Pressed from a die Gear cut from a disc
